FAQs

1. How long are treatment sessions?

Treatment sessions are 55 minutes in duration. Treatments begin and end promptly on time. The hour is specifically reserved for you to receive a one-on-one treatment session. The session will focus on manual techniques, education on behavior modifications, and instruction for a home exercise program.

2. What should I wear to treatment sessions?

Most women choose to wear loose fitting shorts or leggings with a tank top, a sports bra, or a swimsuit top.

3. How many visits does it take to start feeling better?

Most patients feel an improvement within the first few visits but for some, progress is a bit slower. I anticipate progress towards your pelvic health goals with each visit. In general, the more consistent you are with your home program, the sooner you will reach your goals. Typically, visits are scheduled once a week for 55 minutes. As you start to make steady progress, treatments may be spaced further apart.

4. Do you take my insurance?

Women's Pelvic PT does NOT participate with any insurance providers and is considered an Out-of-Network provider. The business model required for a successful insurance-based practice is not one I choose to follow. I have chosen to not participate with any insurance companies so that I may focus on YOU and your specific treatment needs. You will receive one-on-one sessions with a highly-trained therapist which leads to quicker and more lasting treatment results.

5. Do you accept Medicare?

No. Women's Pelvic PT is not a Medicare provider or supplier and does not submit claims to Medicare for physical therapy services.

6. Do you take cash/checks/credit cards?

Yes, cash and checks are accepted. If you prefer to use your mobile device, Paypal and Venmo are accepted as well. Payment in full is due at the time of service.

7. Do you have evening or weekend appointments?

Yes, sessions are scheduled after 3:00 pm on weekdays and as agreed on weekends. Appointments can be booked here. Evening, weekend, or extended treatments can be made, subject to availability. Please contact me with your specific needs.

8. How do I schedule an appointment?

Scheduling is available 24 hours a day to you using the convenient online scheduling program. You can make, change, or cancel an appointment using the scheduling program. If the date and time you prefer is unavailable, please contact me.

9. What is your cancellation policy?

We require you notify us at least 24 hours in advance of your appointment time or you will be charged the full amount of your treatment session.

10. Do I need a prescription from a physician?

Under the California Direct Access Law, you do NOT need a prescription from a medical doctor for 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first. Women's Pelvic PT is an independent private practice, owned and operated by California-licensed Physical Therapist, Dr. Valerie Lapeña.

However, it is highly recommended that you consult with physician, nurse practitioner, midwife, or physician assistant to obtain a Physical Therapy prescription stating Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy Evaluation and Treatment with your current diagnosis.  Taking a team approach to treat your pelvic floor dysfunction is usually best.

11. Is it ok for me to be late to a session?

You will have an entire hour reserved specifically for you and your treatment. We understand you may be running a little bit behind on rare occasions. Unfortunately, treatment sessions cannot be lengthened due to tardiness and full payment is still required.

12. What conditions do you usually treat?

Please see a list of common issues here.

13. Where can I get more information about pelvic floor muscle dysfunction?
